About Us

Stichting Schaapskudde Exloo is a nonprofit foundation dedicated to preserving the heritage of the Drenthe heath sheep in Exloo, The Netherlands. The herd, dating back over 6,000 years, roams the heathlands and forests surrounding the village. We promote biodiversity, sustainability, and cultural education.

Our Activities

• Sheep walks through Exloo (April–October, approx. 10:00 & 16:00 daily).
• Events like Lamb Day and Sheep Shearing Festival.
• Managing 150+ hectares of natural landscape with local partners.
• Educational workshops and school visits focused on nature and tradition.

Visit Us

Our barn is located at Hoofdstraat 57, Exloo. Visitors can enjoy daily walks of the sheep herd and explore the surrounding heathlands. Visit our shop and exhibition center at Zuiderhoofdstraat 8, Exloo.

Support the Herd

• Adopt a Sheep: €27.50/year with certificate and updates.
• Volunteer: Assist with walks, events, or educational tours.
• Donate: Help with food, shelter, and healthcare for the herd.
